Un-monument

Boston Art Review is proud to partner with the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture on Un-monument | Re-monument | De-monument, a city-wide initiative that reimagines how we mark memory, place, and civic identity. Un-monument invites artists, curators, and communities to challenge traditional monument production and propose new forms of public commemoration: temporary, expansive, and deeply rooted in Boston’s evolving cultural landscape.

As editorial partner, Boston Art Review is commissioning and publishing written works that document, interpret, and amplify the initiative’s reach. These pieces range from artist profiles to thematic essays and community reflections.

Working in close collaboration with a cohort of community advisors, Boston Art Review has commissioned writers who represent a wide range of perspectives, geographies, and expertise. We published four essays in our fall/winter 2025 Issue 15 print edition of our biannual publication, and three additional online features with more to come as the project continues into 2026.

We invite you to explore these texts as they unfold—each one offers a lens into the city’s transformation, and the people imagining what comes next.
