Harmonia Rosales

Harmonia Rosales is an artist and author whose work explores the ways origin stories and cultural memory continue to shape contemporary ways of seeing through the lens of African diasporic histories. Drawing from West African philosophies and the visual traditions of Old Master painting, she centers Black figures as protagonists, deities, and monumental subjects to examine ideas of beauty, divinity, power, and cultural memory to reconfigure the hierarchies embedded within those traditions.

Rosales has presented work at institutions including the Getty Museum, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Her work is held in collections including the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art. In 2025, she unveiled Unbound, her first permanent public sculpture, at King’s Chapel in Boston. Her debut novel, CHRONICLES OF ORI: An African Epic, was published by W. W. Norton & Company in 2025.
